Dr. Howard B. Hamat is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine with Advanced training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Therapeutic Biliary Endoscopy
Dr. Hamat completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the prestigious University of Toronto in 1995. He stayed in Toronto for an additional year to do advanced training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Therapeutic Biliary Endoscopy. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Hamat moved with his family to Houston to join Digestive and Liver Disease Consultants, P.A. where he has practiced since 1997.
Dr. Hamat specializes in treating patients with diseases of the liver, bile duct, pancreas, and gallbladder as well as diseases of the esophagus, stomach and intestine. He also has a special interest in taking care of patients with all types of inflammatory bowel disease and is a previous Vice Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Hamat is an expert in performing endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP, having performed well over 20,000 procedures during his career. He has chaired endoscopy committees at several hospitals and is a past Chief of Staff at MemorialHermann Northeast Hospital.
Dr. Hamat is board certified in gastroenterology. He has successfully completed the required board certification examination every ten years, his most recent score being amongst the highest in the nation. Dr. Hamat applies a holistic approach to taking care of his patients and strongly believes in combining a healthy lifestyle of diet, exercise and mindfulness with evidence based medicine to achieve the best outcomes for his patients.When he is not taking care of his patients Dr. Hamat enjoys fishing, swimming, healthy eating and spending time with his family. Additionally, he is an avid Houston sports fan and is often seen cheering on his beloved teams.
